About us

The Suitcase Project was conceived by Ben Buckland, an Australian human rights photographer and senior advisor at the Association for the Prevention of Torture. It was co-founded as a joint project and partnership with Ramin Rahman, an Afghan photographer, Jasmine Caye, a Swiss photographer, and Anastasia Kliuha, a Ukrainian human rights researcher. We have also relied constantly on the advice and expertise of Katie Bird, a UK communications expert. And of course the project would be nothing without all the extraordinary temporary owners of the suitcase and camera, around the world.

We also owe an enormous debt to everyone who helped us and worked with us along the way, in particular: Bruce Marsh, Tilman Rodenhäuser, Tindaro Gagliano, James Iliffe, Eleanor March, and everyone at the International Film Festival and Forum on Human Rights (FIFDH), METAdrasi and the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Museum.
